6.2 earthquake hits northern Japan

    TOKYO: An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 jolted Japan's northern island of Hokkaido Tuesday, but no tsunami warning was issued, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
    There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property.
    The quake hit at 2.10pm (0510 GMT) with its epicentre off the eastern coast of Hokkaido, about 1,300km north-east of Tokyo, at a depth of 20 kilometres, the agency said. – dpa
