PETALING JAYA: Six bank accounts, purportedly linked to allegations of funds transfer into the personal accounts of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, have been frozen by the special task force formed to probe debt-ridden 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
In a joint statement today, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Attorney-General (AG), Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the police said the order to freeze the accounts was issued on Monday.
The task force consists of officers from the MACC, BNM, and the police.
"The special task force has obtained documents on 17 accounts in two banks to facilitate the investigations.
"Some documents for not complying with Bank Negara's procedures and rules were also seized," the statement said.
Investigations are still under way, and the special task force urged all parties to give their cooperation to assist the probe.
The statement was jointly issued by AG Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, Bank Negara Governor Tan Sri Dr. Zeti Akthar Aziz, IGP Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar and MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed.
On Saturday, Abdul Gani confirmed receiving documents with regards to 1MDB, including those related to the alleged funds transfer to the Prime Minister's personal bank account.
The task force raided the premises of SRC International Sdn Bhd, Gandingan Mentari Sdn Bhd and Ihsan Perdana Sdn Bhd and gathered documents from all three premises.
The AG's statement is in line with the opinion of the Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin that the claim by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) last Friday that almost RM2.6 billion has been deposited into Najib's personal bank account by entities tied to 1MDB should be investigated by the authorities.
In an exclusive report today, a local online portal alleged that three out of the six bank accounts which were frozen by the special task force belonged to the Prime Minister.
