PETALING JAYA: Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) Governor Tan Seri Zeti Akhtar Aziz must declare everything she knows about The Wall Street Journal's (WSJ) expose that US$700mil (RM2.6 billion) had been allegedly deposited into Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's personal bank accounts from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds.
Former Law Minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim also dismissed the task force which comprises the Attorney-General's Chambers, the police, Bank Negara and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), which was set up to investigate these allegations.
When asked by theSun whether he thought that it is a conflict of interest for BNM to be on the task force, Zaid said: "The task force is a waste of time, so I don't care who is in the team,"
He said there was no need for a probe as all Zeti has to do is ask the banks that are claimed to be involved in the matter.
"There is nothing to probe, just ask AmBank. Just ask the monetary authority of Singapore and then tell the public what they told her," he said.
Yesterday, the task force, raided 1MDB's office in Kuala Lumpur, with the state-owned company confirming that documents have been confiscated by investigators.
The task force had previously raided three companies linked to 1MDB over the alleged funds transfer – SRC International, Ihsan Perdana Sdn Bhd and Gandingan Mentari Sdn Bhd.
Zaid also commented on BNM's continued silence on the WSJ report, saying that leaders are afraid to tell the truth.
"BNM's silence is typical of our leaders who are afraid to tell the truth," he said.
"They are afraid of the Prime Minister and they are afraid of losing their jobs," he added.
Yesterday, Zaid also tweeted that to carry out a proper probe, it would require Najib to step down and Deputy Prime Minister Tan Seri Muhyiddin Yassin to take over.
He also called for Zeti to step down and her deputy to take over while the investigation is being carried out.
