LANGKAWI: Langkawi is expecting RM50 million in revenue from 10,000 tourists from China's Chengdu province who are taking up special tour packages.
"This figure is based on the projection that each tourist would spend an average of RM5,000 for each tour package from now until July next year.
"Tourists from Chengdu have strong spending power and we expect the tourism industry in Langkawi to benefit from these tour packages that specifically promote the island." YC Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd managing director Choong Hin Seong told Bernama.
The company and MyHotel are offering the packages.
Choong had earlier welcomed the first batch of 157 tourists from Chengdu at the Langkawi International Airport today.
Choong said the packages are promoted through a joint venture with Langkawi's MyHotel as the accommodation provider and tourists are flown in direct by China Eastern Airlines.
MyHotel managing director Ku Azhar Ku Abdul Razak said there is still plenty of room for new products to be introduced in Langkawi. — Bernama
