KeTTHA proposes membrane technology mobile water treatment plant for S'gor

NAKA: The Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry (KeTTHA) is proposing to build a mobile water treatment plant using membrane filtration technology in Selangor to ease water problems in the state.

National Water Services Commission (SPAN) Water Regulatory Department executive director Marzuki Mohamad said the mobile water treatment plant could treat three million litres of water a day for household consumption.

"We (SPAN) have sent the proposal to the Selangor state government and we are still awaiting their reply," he told reporters when accompanying deputy KeTTHA Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid in a visit to a mobile water treatment plant in Lubuk Merbau Felda today.

Even though the amount of water produced by the mobile water treatment plant is small compared to the 4,700 million litres a day needed by residents in the Klang Valley, it could help meet the needs of some consumers, he said.

According to Marzuki, the proposed mobile water treatment plant to be commissioned at a yet to be decided location in Selangor would cost about RM4.5 million. – Bernama
