Police cripple gang extorting foreign workers
JOHOR BARU: The police detain three men suspected of being involved in extorting foreign workers in an operation in Jalan Sungai Danga, at midnight, yesterday.
Nusajaya District Police Headquarters, in a statement here today, said all the suspects, aged 20 to 27 years, were detained at a road block.
The statement said the detentions were a follow-up on extortion cases by the roadside near the East Ledang kongsi house, Nusajaya.
"At about midnight, police were tipped off that a Bangladeshi man working as a construction labourer had been taken aboard a car by three unknown men in a brown Proton Saga.
"Police then detected the car at the persisiran Ledang roundabout and informed the Nusajaya District Control Centre for dissemination. During the chase, the suspect's car came to a road block and was stopped," said the statement.
