PETALING JAYA: The Special Committee on Corruption (JKMR) has urged all parties to stop disputing the integrity of the special task force responsible for investigating allegations made against 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
JKMR, which was established under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, said it was shocked and disappointed with statements from various quarters, including from the chairman of Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB), Mohamed Sabu, who questioned the integrity of the task force.
"The GHB chairman claimed on July 13 that the investigation currently done by the special task force is purportedly to hide the truth.
"This accusation is just a malicious and irresponsible statement by them," JKMR chairman Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang said in a statement today.
The special task force is made up of Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akthar Aziz, Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail and MACC chief Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed.
"As the chairman of JKMR, I believe the task force, which is represented by four of the highest officers in their respective agencies, is capable of conducting a thorough, independent and transparent investigation," he said.
Abu Zahar urged all MPs to remain true to the oath they have taken to be faithful to country and uphold the Federal Constitution.
"In times like this, MPs should not disobey the oath of allegiance which they had recited. Give some space for the task force to complete the investigation," he added.
He said JKMR, which comprises seven MPs from Barisan Nasional, DAP, PKR and PAS, has been keeping close tabs on the current development pertaining to the 1MDB probe.
