PKR yet to decide on working with GHB

SHAH ALAM: PKR has yet to make any decision on cooperating with the Gerakan Harapan Baru (New Hope Movement or GHB) movement.
Speaking to reporters at the state-level Hari Raya open house in Shah Alam Stadium, PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali said the matter has yet to be discussed by the party's political bureau.
"It is not a question of personal support; it is a party decision that needs to be brought to the political bureau for discussion," he said.
GHB was launched last week by former PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu and other ousted PAS leaders. Its focus is on Islamic struggles with an inclusive and progressive approach. GHB had also invited like-minded NGOs and political parties to join up.
It is widely speculated that the movement will appeal to both PKR and DAP members after the Pakatan Rakyat partnership between DAP and PAS ended last month.
When asked by reporters on Selangor PAS commissioner Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad's comment that GHB will benefit Barisan Nasional and hurt PAS in the long run, Azmin, the Selangor mentri besar, said it was a PAS problem.
"This is an internal problem in PAS that I do not want to interfere," he said.
In George Town, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng laughed off suggestions that GHB was a proxy of the DAP.
"No way," said the DAP secretary-general, adding that the suggestion came from Umno.
He said PAS should instead be questioned on why the party supported 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
Former PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali last week said GHB will wear the DAP proxy label after PAS was accused of being one when both parties cooperated under the Pakatan Rakyat umbrella.
GHB was mooted after all the progressive leaders in the Islamist party failed to defend their party positions in the muktamar (general assembly meeting) in June.
The muktamar also passed the resolution to sever ties with the DAP without debate following which DAP did the same.
