PETALING JAYA: Attempts to clamp down the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal will only "bury" Umno in the 14th General Election, said Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) secretary-general Rafizi Ramli.
Commenting on the matter, he said that Umno had lately launched a strategy on the matter by employing two methods which included:
» distracting the peoples' attention that apparently the evidence reported through the media such as the Sarawak Report and The Edge were false which implicated 1MDB's former executive Xavier Justo
» implying that the Opposition including Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, DAP's Tony Pua and him had "masterminded" fictionalised the scandal to create the prime minister's downfall
"These two tactics have been played up every day in the media to convince Umno members that 1MDB does not exist and it is only fiction," he said in a statement today.
Stressing that he did not feel threatened by these tactics, he continued to ask the prime minister three questions on major issues related to 1MDB, which included the location of the RM42 billion which they had acquired and reasons behind a total amount of US$1.83 billion had been moved to certain individuals related to PetroSaudi International Ltd and Jho Low.
Lastly, he also asked how and why had a total amount of RM2.6 million which is believed belonging to 1MDB had been placed under the prime minister's personal account.
The Pandan MP said if these questions were left unanswered it would only strengthen the public's thoughts that 1MDB's (funds) were for personal usage.
The 1MDB investigation is still ongoing and monitored by the Public Accounts Committee.
