1MDB-linked company director held by MACC

KUALA LUMPUR: The special task force formed to investigate the alleged 1Malaysia Development Berhad) 1MDB scandal detained a company director on Monday to assist in the probe on the government's strategic development company.
The 39-year-old man who is a member of the board of directors of two construction companies which allegedly had dealings with 1MDB's subsidiary company, SRC International Sdn Bhd is the first individual to be detained since the task force was formed in March.
He was detained by the immigration department at the KL International Airport (KLIA) before his planned flight to Taiwan on Monday morning and was handed over to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at 1pm.
It is unknown if the man's planned trip to Taiwan was an attempt to flee the country.
theSun also learnt that the MACC raided the director's two offices at unknown locations in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya soon after they picked him up at the KLIA and continued the search operation today.
Sources said that anti-corruption officers had seized some documents and other items for the probe.
The MACC in a statement said the man who is also a director of a construction company was remanded for four days on Tuesday morning at the Putrajaya magistrate's court.
The director was represented by lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah.
The commission said the director was detained under the MACC Act to assist in the ongoing investigations into 1MDB.
A joint-special task force made up of the MACC, police, Attorney-General's Chambers and Bank Negara is undertaking an investigation into 1MDB and has placed several individuals linked to the company under its surveillance since the allegations of fund misappropriation amounting to billions of ringgit was leveled against the company.
About three weeks ago, the 1MDB's office which also housed the administration of SRC International and other subsidiaries was raided by members of the task force.
It is alleged that SRC International was among the companies that bridged fund transfers of over RM700 million to the personal bank accounts of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Meanwhile, in a statement, the 1MDB board said none of its employees was under remand and reiterated its commitment to cooperate with the authorities investigating allegations of fund misappropriation involving 1MDB.
"1MDB will give its full cooperation," it said in the statement.
