KUALA LUMPUR: The Edge publisher and CEO Ho Kay Tat was summoned by federal police today to show up for questioning over articles related to 1MDB that was carried in The Edge Financial Daily.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar who confirmed this said that Ho is being investigated for "activity detrimental to parliamentary democracy" under Section 124 of the Penal Code.
He declined further comment.
The Edge Financial Daily landed in hot soup with the authorities after it published an article titled "How Jho Low and PetroSaudi cheated Malaysia of US1.83 billion cash" that allegedly exposed the misappropriation of funds of 1MDB.
Ho who learnt he was barred from leaving the country on Wednesday had issued a statement claiming the article was published after thoroughly examining evidence in a stack of documents the publication had received from an undisclosed party.
It is learnt that several others including journalists who had worked on the story are expected to be called in by Bukit Aman to have their statements recorded.
Investigations into the alleged 1MDB scandal also took a fresh step today when Khalid left for Thailand with several senior police officers today to meet top Thai police officials for an arrangement to record a statement from former PetroSaudi employee Xavier Andre Justo.
Federal police corporate communications head Datin Asmawati Ahmad confirmed Khalid was in Thailand but did not disclose more details.
Justo, an IT executive with PetroSaudi had allegedly released classified documents pertaining to business dealings between PetroSaudi and 1MDB. The Swiss was detained by Thai police last month for allegedly blackmailing his ex-employer, threatening to go public with the documents if he is not paid kickbacks amounting to about RM10 million.
