Better public transportation system for Ipoh folk

    IPOH: City bus passengers now have a guide for their journey as signboards showing the destinations and time table are up at Medan Kidd bus station here and Amanjaya Bus terminal in Bandar Meruraya.
    The sighboards will also be displayed at the 150 bus stops along the six routes, The bus services are at intervals of between 15 and 30 minutes depending on the traffic and peak hours.
    This is part of the state government's plan to upgrade the existing bus services for the convenience of the public.
    Perak Heath, Public Transport, Non-Islamic Affairs, National Integration and New Villages committee head Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said besides having air conditioned buses, they are emphasising the time schedule.
    "We will monitor the services provided by the company and get feedback for further improvement." he told reporters after visiting the Medan Kidd bus station and Amanjaya Bus terminal today.
    He said Ipoh city council is currently giving bus stops a facelift.
    "We are looking at several options like companies adopting and maintaining bus stops or setting up a company to put up the bus stops," he added.
    He noted KPJ Ipoh Specialist Hospital at Jalan Raja Di Hilir adopted a bus stop in front of the building.
    Perak Transit Berhad managing director Datuk Cheong Peak Sooi said presently 40 buses ply the six routes and they have applied for another 16 routes which is pending approval by the Land Public Transport Commission.
    Dr Mah and his entourage, including Ipoh Mayor Datuk Zamri Man, boarded a Perak Transit bus from Medan Kidd to Amanjaya to check out the routes and bus stops.
