KUALA LUMPUR: A non-governmental organisation has submitted a memorandum of protest to the British High Commission against Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown for tarnishing Malaysia’s image by publishing articles on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Head of the Bumiputera bureau of the Mind and Social Welfare Society Mohd Faizan Alias handed the memorandum to the High Commission’s security officer Gurcharan Singh at Menara Binjai today.
Faizan said that a foreigner should not interfere in Malaysia’s affairs by publishing false accusations against a government-linked company.
Eleven members from the NGO headed by Faizan gathered at Jalan Binjai earlier today to protest against what they described as "blatant lies" by a foreign journalist.
“Sarawak Report was originally set-up to highlight environmental issues in Sarawak. But now, the website has turned into an agent for exposing fabricated and deceitful contents on 1MDB,” he added.
Earlier this week, the Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) blocked access to the whistleblower website.
In a statement posted on its Facebook page on Monday, the MCMC said it acted against the site after receiving complaints that the website had uploaded information that had not been verified.
It added that such content could undermine peace and affect the economy.
