PETALING JAYA: It was a harrowing one hour for a family when a 14-month-old toddler was abducted together with the family car on Saturday night.
The incident happened around 10.30pm in front of a shopping mall in SS16 in Subang Jaya.
It is learnt that the toddler's father, a manager, had parked the car to pick up his wife, who had just finished her working shift at the mall.
Subang Jaya police chief ACP Yahaya Ramli said the man stepped out of the car upon seeing his wife approaching.
In that split second, a suspect jumped into the white Perodua Myvi and drove it away, with the toddler still in the car.
"The toddler's parents immediately lodged a police report.
"The toddler was found an hour later at Bukit Jelutong Rest and Recreation (RnR) and then placed in the custody of Bukit Jelutong police before she was returned to her family," said Yahaya.
The suspect and the white Myvi bearing the registration number WVD 1739 are still reported missing.
Prior to the discovery, the toddler's uncle, who goes by the name Niezam Petrelli on social media, had posted on his Facebook account that his niece was abducted near Subang Parade.
He said his 25-year-old brother-in-law had just parked his car in front of a restaurant when an unidentified man drove the vehicle away.
"I want to thank everyone who helped, and netizens who shared the info through social sites," he said.
Niezam added that he hoped the public would not make accusations or assumptions regarding the incident because bad things could happen to anyone.
