1MDB: No PMO statement ahead of probe team, says PM's Special Functions Officer

KUALA LUMPUR: The Prime Minister's Office will not issue any statement ahead of the team investigating the 1Malaysia Development Berhad case, said the Prime Minister's Special Functions Officer Datuk Rizal Mansor.

He said the PMO could not precede the investigation team, including the Public Accounts Committee, the Special Task Force and the National Audit Department, in issuing any statement because the case was still under investigation, and also to avert any defamation.

"The Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak) himself has given the commitment and freedom to the investigation team to undertake the probe and we have to wait for the outcome from the most appropriate source, that is the investigation team itself," he told Bernama after appearing on the Ruang Bicara BernamaTV programme on Tuesday night.

He said all kinds of slander had been churned up of late with the aim of causing disunity among the people and had led to hatred towards the national leadership.

"My advice to the people is to evaluate the news and ensure that it is genuine and from credible sources," he said. – Bernama
