1MDB probe by PAC will be temporarily suspended

    PETALING JAYA: The RM42 billion debts 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal probe by the Public Accounts Committee's (PAC) will be temporarily suspended until a new chairman and committee members are appointed in Parliament in October.
    This comes after Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed (pix), who was PAC chairman, was appointed as the new Deputy Home Minister with immediate effect.
    "The probe on 1MDB has to be stopped until the next Parliament sitting because all four of us (Barisan Nasional representatives) have been appointed as members of the executive. The new appointments to the PAC can only be done in October when Parliament convenes again," Nur Jazlan told theSun.
    He along with Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican (deputy foreign affairs minister), Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (tourism and culture deputy minister) and Datuk Wilfred Madius Tangau have been given new appointments and have to resign from the PAC.
    PAC was in the midst of investigating the Auditor-General's interim report on 1MDB and was due to question 1MDB chief executive Arul Kanda Kandasamy and his predecessor, Datuk Shahrul Ibrahim Halmi next week.
    All 1MDB's auditors Deloitte, KPMG and Ernst & Young were also to be called in for questioning along with several other 1MDB executives and directors of its subsidiaries in September. However the meetings will have to wait till the new committee is appointed.
