KOTA KINABALU: Newly appointed Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Tun Said said he had resigned as Sabah's Legislative Assembly Speaker, effective immediately.
He said the resignation was to enable him to carry out his new duties as a member of the Federal Cabinet, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, today.
"I have informed the Honourable Chief Minister of Sabah of this decision, as having been appointed as a member of the Federal Cabinet, of course I will not be allowed to hold the Speaker's post," he told reporters at his residence here, today.
However, he said he would continue his duties as Usukan state assemblyman, stating that his appointment at the federal level would not affect his responsibilities as an elected representative. – Bernama
