Shafie: I was merely fighting for people’s interest

PETALING JAYA: Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said it is Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak's discretion to remove him from the Cabinet if he is not toeing the line.
Shafie, who was dropped as rural and regional development Minister, said he was merely fighting for the interest of the people and speaking on behalf of the grassroots.
"All this while I have been fighting for the interests of the people and grassroots sentiments. My views are to strengthen Umno and to put the country on the right track," he said in a Facebook post.
Shafie added that he had done his best to ensure the welfare of the people, especially the rural communities.
