SHAH ALAM: Police will not hesitate to take action against those found to encourage people to take to the streets calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said police will investigate the involvement of NGOs, especially rumours on social media of former Bar Council president Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan allegedly asking people to call Najib to resign from his position.
"I want to remind whatever NGO or political party, not to take opportunity of this current situation.
"Let's take social media, where there were alleged posts from Ambiga encouraging people to take to the streets to call for the Prime Minister to resign from his position.
"We will investigate if this is true," Khalid told reporters after attending a Hari Raya open house celebration at Selangor police headquarters today.
Khalid also called on Ambiga to deny about her involvement in this issue.
"We will call Ambiga to quickly deny this or we will take action in accordance with the law," he said.
On Tuesday, Ambiga said the removal of Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal from the Cabinet smacked of a conspiracy linked with the debt-ridden 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
She also criticised on the removal of former Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail.
