KUALA LUMPUR: A fire broke out at the federal police headquarters at Bukit Aman yesterday affecting the corridor of the 10th floor occupied by the Crime Investigations Department (CID) at Tower 2.
The blaze broke out at 5.20pm.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the fire had been put out and no casualties were reported.
He said a probe on the cause of the fire is underway.
Khalid also confirmed in his official Twitter account that only unimportant documents were destroyed in the fire.
"Level 10 is Criminal Investigation Department (CID) office. Stop spreading rumours," he said in a message on Twitter.
Earlier, Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Azizan Ismail said fire and rescue personnel from the Hang Tuah, Titiwangsa and Sentul stations were rushed to the scene to bring the blaze under control.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department director Khirudin Drahman said the fire was put out at about 7.47pm.
Police also said certain photos of the fire circulating in cyberspace give a false impression of the fire.
Police said the floors above where the fire broke out had corridor spotlights switched on, giving a notion that the fire was bigger than it seemed.
