JOHOR BARU: The RM20 vehicle entry permit (VEP) imposed on foreign vehicles will be collected beginning Oct 1 at the entry points of Johor.
All foreign registered cars, including Singapore vehicles entering Johor through the Causeway at Johor Baru and the Second Link at Gelang Patah, will need to pay the VEP fee of RM20. For every collection of RM20, the Johor state government will receive RM5.
Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Aziz Kaprawi said this after visiting the preparation work on VEP at the Second Link today, adding that VEP collection will begin in October to make sure the system is running smoothly.
Since Aug 15 all Singapore registered private cars, Malaysia registered private cars and commerical cars can register for the VEP online.
"Everyone will need to pay a registration fee of RM10, valid for five years (on changing ownership of the car, the new car owner need to apply a new one)," Aziz said.
Only government cars, diplomatic cars, and motorcycles do not require registration while using the Causeway and Second Link.
A RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tag will be provided by the Road Transport Department (RTD) upon registration.
Aziz Kaprawi said that from September, all vehicles entering Johor will need to have an RFID tag, including Malaysia registered private cars and commerical cars, for tracing purposes at checking lanes.
“The system can record how many vehicles go in and go out, it helps to reduce car smuggling problem between the two nations," he added.
Aziz Kaprawi said according to unofficial records, there is about 14,000 Singapore registered cars passing through the Causeway daily, with another 6,000 using the Second Link.
