SEREMBAN: Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak said that as the top party leader, he could accept admonishments and criticisms made by party members against him.
The prime minister said, however, the criticisms and admonishments must be made in a proper manner and at appropriate places because if they were made at improper venues, they could destroy the party.
"If we sit down together, we should discuss. If there are insufficient information, find the necessary information. Its's okay if we don't agree on some matters, we can even argue, but not to the extent of hurling chairs.
"Table-thumping among us in the room is okay, but when we are outside, we are party members who are loyal to our party," he said when opening the Seremban Umno divisional delegates meeting in Paroi, here today.
He said that when a decision had been made, all party members must show solidarity and defend that decision.
Najib said despite differences in opinions, Umno members must demonstrate that the party remained united especially in ensuring that it could maintain its position and win the coming general election.
"That's why I feel that we must strive to strengthen our party. Strong because we are united, loyal, disciplined, committed; then only our party can be strong and successful," he said.
Meanwhile, he also commented on the various reports in the Sarawak Report which portrayed that they were trying to determine who should lead the country.
In this regard, Najib pointed out that he would not bow down to pressure or criticisms by outsiders on the national leadership.
"I'm against this, I cannot accept if outsiders try to determine the leadership of our country. If I am wrong, let the party members admonish me, I can accept this," he said.
Najib said that he and the party members would never accept outsiders in determining who should lead the country.
"We must be united in this matter," he added. – Bernama
