KUALA LUMPUR: Umno should use the right medium to take action against former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin following a viral video depicting him talking about allegations that RM2.6 billion was transferred into Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak's personal account.
Its Vice President Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the party's disciplinary board and its management committee will discuss the matter before proceeding with any action.
"The party has our own medium, we have the disciplinary board, we have the management committee,"
"I am a part of the management committee so let me discuss with them," Hushamuddin told the media during a press conference after he launched the Umno Batu delegates meeting at Darul Kifayah Complex here.
On Saturday, Umno Supreme Council member, Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi said Muhyiddin may face disciplinary action after a 1.30 minute video depicting him talking about money being transferred transferred into Najib personal account.
"That is Aziz's personal opinion, his personal opinion does not reflect the stand of the party.
"I respect his decision but it is not the views of the supreme council," Hishammuddin said.
Muhyiddin is looked to be very vocal in expressing his views on troubled 1Malaysia Development Fund, where the state's arm company was founded by Najib.
Last Tuesday, Muhyiddin was ousted from the Cabinet where his Deputy post was replaced by Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Hishammuddin said Muhyiddin's sacking is not unusual as it had happened before.
"This is not a new thing. We have faced similar situations before but we should close rank to come out stronger and more united," Hishammuddin said.
Hishammuddin added party members should put the party before personal agenda.
Hishammuddin cites past leaders, including his own grandfather Datuk Onn Jaafar, who resigned from his post as Umno president in 1951, when the party rejected his motion to include non-Malays into the party.
"Same with Tun Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman, who quit as home minister when he had a disagreement with the then prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman."
