Man charged for links to IS

    KUALA LUMPUR: A 31-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate Court here for his alleged links to the Islamic State (IS) militants in Syria.
    Zulqarnian Ghaz Abd Ghani who was arrested in July following his return from Syria, was charged under Section 130J(1)(b) of the Penal Code for offences relating to terrorism.
    He was alleged to have entered Syria knowingly between April 27 to Aug 28, 2014, to support militant activities involving the use of firearms for a religious struggle that poses a threat to the Syrian public.
    Zulqarnian was investigated under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 following his arrest.
    If convicted, he faces a maximum jail term of up to 30 years, is liable to be fined and have his property confiscated by the authorities.
    Magistrate Zulyana Zollkapli fixed Sept 11 to transfer the case to the KL High Court.
