34 illegal immigrants held in three operations in Lumut

    LUMUT: The district immigration department detained 34 illegal immigrants in three operations in the district on Tuesday night.
    The foreigners, eight of whom are women, comprised 14 Indonesians, Vietnamese (seven), Pakistanis (five), Indians (four) Bangladeshis (three) and Myanmar (one), aged between 14 and 50.
    Department head Nor Azman Ibrahim said the operations, dubbed 'Ops Belanja', 'Ops Sapu' and 'Ops Sayang' targetted among others, food stalls, mini-markets and workers quarters.
    He said two local employers were also picked up to facilitate investigations into harbouring the illegals, during the three operations which began at 8.10pm.
    Speaking to reporters here today, he said the 34 foreigners did not have valid travel documents and had overstayed in the country.
    He added the illegals would be sent to the Langkap detention depot prior to deportation. – Bernama
