PUTRAJAYA: In a show of solidarity, prominent opposition leaders visited the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters today after officials from the agency were interrogated in relation to their probe on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Among those present were DAP veteran leader Lim Kit Siang, PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Gerakan Harapan Baru chairman Mohamad Sabu, PKR vice-president and Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli, Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng, DAPSY youth chief Teo Kok Seong and Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad.
"We do not want our government to be fractured, warring against itself – where agencies fight other agencies ... this is not good.
"We are all patriots, the MACC, the police and other government agencies. We are not traitors, and we are not committing treason against anybody," said Lim.
Mohamad, who is fondly known as Mat Sabu, said that people do not want the perception that MACC does not have the power to investigate those in authority.
"Whatever is going on in the past few days have created a new perception that MACC can be disturbed by other government agencies.
"We are here to support MACC, as it is a credible body," he told reporters present today.
On hand to welcome the group was MACC strategic communications director Rohaizad Yaakob.
"We thank the MPs and leaders who have come to show their support for us, and we will continue to do our best work," he said.
In a statement issued yesterday, MACC said it would quiz Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak over the sum of RM2.6 billion which was deposited into his bank account.
The MACC had also said that based on its investigations, the money deposited into Najib's account was a donation from a particular party in the Middle East.
