'My Asean My Home' aims to promote regional unity among the young

    KUALA LUMPUR: LearnAsean, a non-governmental organisation group, launches a children book to promote unity and English literacy within the Asean communities titled "My Asean My Home" in conjunction with the Asean Day celebration at Pavilion Shopping Mall.
    Foreign Ministry Malaysian National Secretariat deputy director general Jojie Samuel said the initiative is an awareness programme dedicated to building Asean brand by nurturing Asean's amazingly talented and creative younger generation.
    "By fostering ownership of the Asean community through all levels of society, we hope to initiate successful community-building through constructive project," he told theSun adding that the book will be launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak at Pavilion at the Asean Day celebration at Pavilion Shopping Mall.
    "The main objectives (of this initiative) include promoting unity and English literacy as well as creativity and inculcating a love of reading among children," he added.
    Jojie also said the book is aimed for children aged between nine to 13 years old.
    "My Asean My Home" introduces Mawar, a little Malaysian girl who goes on a journey of a lifetime around Asean to meet up with several pen pals. Mawar's adventures will showcase the cultural diversity of the Asean region while exploring children's thinking skills and filled with interesting historical facts about the ten Asean nations.
    The Asean Day celebration line-up included Asean exhibitions such as Air Asia and Foreign Ministry booths, cultural dances from all over the Asean region, choirs and drum performances.
