N. Sembilan to launch 30-year Development and Modernisation Policy next year

SEREMBAN: Negri Sembilan's 30-Year Development and Modernisation Policy to be launched next year is expected to reflect aggressive development in the state for the next three decades.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said that this policy was a great platform, and would become the core of the development in state for 30 years to come.

"This Development and Modernisation Policy is supported by the Social Safety Net Policy to ensure the welfare of the people in the state. Under this Social Safety Net, we have other policies such as education, housing and rural areas, to ensure people are not burdened and left out in the journey towards modernisation," he said after a state assembly meeting here, today.

Mohamad (BN-Rantau) said the Negeri Sembilan Housing Policy (DPNS) launched in June this year was well received by all parties because it met the needs of the population to own houses at affordable prices and developers were no longer bound to build 30% low cost houses.

He said in line with the implementation of DPNS, the state government would no longer allow the construction of low cost houses as it not only burdened the people with maintenance and social problems but also the government.
In reply to Cha Kee Chin's (DAP-Bukit Kepayang) supplementary question in respect of a 50% quota of home ownership by Bumiputera, Mohamad said in residential areas where the Malay population was not high, such as Lobak, Temiang, Bahau and Lukut, only a 30% Bumiputera quota was set.
    
In addition, he said to ensure that rural people did not feel left out, the state government would launch the Rural Development Policy early next year.
    
Mohamad said the state government would also develop Housing Schemes for Government servants, and had allocated 18.21ha of land in Sendayan for the purpose, in which the buyers would automatically get a discount of 25 to 30% from the market price," he said.
   
He said the construction of low cost houses after the implementation of DPNS would be coordinated by the state government along with the National Housing Department and other government agencies involved in housing development.
    
"The People Friendly Housing Project and the Housing Project for the Hardcore Poor are still there, and after this if there are homes to be build by government agencies, we will create a hire and purchase concept, so it can further ease the burden of low-income earners and the poor," he said. – Bernama
