KUALA LUMPUR: A seemingly harmless act of wiping his shoes with a tissue and leaving it on the floor of an LRT coach has put a 39-year-old architect in Facebook shame.
In the 9am incident on Aug 5, the man identified as Chan was on his way to work by train.
As his shoe was dirty, he wiped it with a tissue.
"As there was no rubbish bin in the train, I left the tissue paper on the floor, planning to dispose of it after I reached my destination," he told reporters at MCA Public Services and Complaints Department, Wisma MCA, today.
"A man then approached me and insisted that I pick up the tissue paper but I ignored him because I feared that something will happen to me as his tone was furious," he added.
The next day, Chan was informed by his colleague that the man identified as 'Shane Chiam' took a photo of him and posted it on Facebook.
"This guy sits down, takes a tissue out, pours water on it then wipes his shoes. He then tosses it to the side. After asking him several times to pick up his trash, he puts on his headphones and ignores me. Definitely cacat akal. What's funny is that after wiping his shoes, he takes a pic of it. Showing off his clean shoes to his admirers I guess," the post said on Aug 5 at about 9.32am.
On Aug 8, Chan lodged a police report at Dang Wangi police station as there were comments condemning him, with some warning him of physical action.
"I urge all Facebook users to never believe all posts as true. This will cause damage to victims like me," he said.
Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong advised Shane and all Facebook users to get both sides of a story before defaming a person.
