Student falls from Gunung Batu Putih in Kuala Woh

    TAPAH: A student who was part of a mountain-climbing team on Gunung Batu Putih, Kuala Woh here was injured after he fell and was stuck on a tree on the slopes last night.
    The victim, Barry Boey Chee Wai, 21, from Cheras, Kuala Lumpur who was injured in his legs was sent to the Tapah Hospital.
    However, he was allowed to go home today after receiving out-patient treatment.
    Tapah District Police Chief Superintendent Somsak Din Keliaw said he received a call about the incident at 12.30 pm yesterday from the victim's family.
    "The victim was said to have slipped while climbing along the mountain slopes before he was stuck in between the trees at a height of about 100 feet, his team did not realise what happened as Chee Wai was said to be in the back row," he told reporters today.
    Somsak said the victim, who was carrying a handphone, then called his family for help.
    However, Chee Wai who was stuck in a tree, was brought down by his team after they realised his absence several minutes later.
    He said police and firemen found the victim at 3.30 pm and Chee Wai was brought out of the area on foot at 9.15 pm.
    The victim together with 30 others had arrived early yesterday morning at Gunung Batu Putih for a hike.
    A total of 50 people comprising members of the police, Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Department, hospital as well as Orang Asli residents formed the search and rescue operations for the victim. – Bernama
