VACATIONS are the best, but all that sun, sea salt and chlorine can wreak havoc on your hair. If your tresses are feeling the heat after the summer then there a few things you can do to nurse them back to their former health.
If your strands are dried out then the priority should be injecting some moisture back into them.
Start out with an intensive mask such as Moroccan Oil's Intense Hydrating Mask (US$54.40), which contains antioxidant-rich argan oil to hydrates and condition, or Alterna's Summer Sun Recovery Spray (US$22), which works to counteract the trauma invoked by overexposure to the sun, chlorine or saltwater, all the while providing UV protection.
Alternatively you could make your own DIY mask from natural products.
Coconut oil is a great go-to product if you're looking for a quick fix – hair and beauty vlogger JLovesMac1 suggests sectioning off your hair when dry and brushing it all the way through the tips, before leaving it to soak in under a towel (to trap heat) for around an hour.
When you shampoo it out you should find yourself with smooth, glossy, happy locks.
Another practical way to revitalise damaged hair is via a leave-in conditioner that will do all the hard work for you while you go about unpacking your suitcase and catching up on all the Netflix you missed while at the beach.
Kiehl's Damage Repairing & Rehydrating Leave-In Treatment (US$25) contains Moringa tree oil and is designed to soothe overheated hair.
Bay Breeze's new Hydrating Shots (US$10 for 1) are also an easy way to inject some moisture into thirsty locks.
When it comes to styling, an aftersun product such as Frédéric Fekkai's Après Soleil Crème (US$20 for 4oz) can help to quench any strands that are still parched, as well as tame flyaways.
If too much time in the pool has left your mane dry and straw-like then you might want to invest in a clarifying shampoo like Bumble and Bumble's Sunday Shampoo (US$25) to strip it of chemical buildup.
Then you can focus on restoring strength with a protein treatment such as the Fortifying Hair Mask (US$20) from Redken's Extreme Strength Builder line.
However, we all know that prevention is better than cure, so once your hair is looking soft and shiny again don't forget to keep it protected from further damage by using a UV-protection product such as Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil Primer (US$27). – AFP Relaxnews
