PETALING JAYA: PKR vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar claimed that prison officials have imposed additional restrictions on Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim following claims of a conspiracy to topple Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Izzah, who is Anwar’s eldest daughter said her father has been restricted to meet his doctors, lawyers and even family members.
“Since last week, especially after the rumors of Umno leader who are currently preparing a memorandum to be attached to the statutory declarations, prison authorities has blocked the access for Anwar.
“The access is family visits, access to doctors and lawyers. This move is deemed to be very politicial,” Izzah said during a press conference at the party’s headquarters here.
The Lembah Pantai parliamentarian also said authorities have tried to stop opposition leaders, such as DAP’s Lim Kit Siang, PKR's Rafizi Ramli and Mohamed Azmin Ali from meeting Anwar during his rare court appearances.
“Meetings with his lawyers have also been reduced from the usual two hours to 45 minutes and Anwar’s access to the prison’s library has also been restricted with him mostly spending time in his lock-up.
“Family visits have also been made short and Anwar’s written statements for the media are also restricted,” Nurul Izzah added.
Meanwhile, Izzah chided BN strategic communication director Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan who has made serious claims that involves Najib, in an interview with an English daily recently.
Nurul Izzah told Rahman that his remark, in regards to draft charge sheets against Najib appeared to implicate the prime minister in possible acts of power abuse.
Izzah added Rahman had changed his statements, after the latter accused DAP’s Lim Kit Siang of spinning his comments published on the article.
“As a Cabinet minister, he must be investigated seriously as it brings us back to the main question now — was the charge sheet real? If so, who was lying?” Nurul Izzah questioned.
In the article released on the weekend, Rahman had admitted that he was not sure of the authenticity of the draft document although he said that it “could be there”.
He then quoted the newly appointed Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali and said that the document may be part of a plot to criminalise Najib.
Rahman then denied the statement and said he had never claimed the draft charge sheet was genuine and had only been speaking about possible theories on the document, as well as Najib’s decision to reshuffle the federal Cabinet and remove Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail from the office of Attorney-General.
