Barge catches fire, four injured

    SANDAKAN: Four Philippine nationals were injured after a petrol-laden barge on which they were working, caught fire in the waters off Batu Sapi near here, today.
    Three of the men suffered burns while the fourth sustained a broken leg.
    Sabah Fire and Rescue public relations officer Affendy K. Ramin said the department's fire and rescue station here dispatched 13 personnel in three vehicles to the scene after receiving a distress call at 6.20am.
    He said the crew managed to control the fire from spreading to the jetty where old boats were moored and salvaged 335 barrels of petrol that were on the barge.
    He said the four workers aged between 30 and 35 were sent to Duchess of Kent Hospital for treatment and reported to be in stable condition.
    Affendy said the cause of the fire was being investigated. – Bernama
