PETALING JAYA: Bermaz Sdn Bhd’s recent launch of its two-seat convertible sports car has expanded the company’s product portfolio in catering to a niche market segment, with the roadster aimed specifically at driving enthusiasts.
The model was launched at Bermaz’ flagship headquarters in Glenmarie, Shah Alam by Bermaz’s executive director Datuk Seri Ben Yeoh alongside Prima Merdu Sdn Bhd’s executive director Datuk Amer Hamzah.
Introduced for the Malaysian market, was the 2.0-litre variant primed with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The four-cylinder engine produces 158 horsepower and 200 Newton metres of torque channelled to the rear wheels.
Like all other current generation Mazda models, the new MX-5 was developed to incorporate the brand’s Skyactiv Technology suite, making it the brand’s first sports car to feature the efficiency and performance enhancing technology.
Yeoh declined to offer sales targets for the MX-5 in Malaysia, but did mention that Bermaz will offer a special package for the first batch of buyers.
The new MX-5 is priced on-the-road with insurance at RM226,378.82. This includes a three-year or 100,000km warranty plus its three-year or 60,000km free service package as well. It is now available for viewing and booking at the flagship Mazda Glenmarie showroom.
Notwithstanding the launch of the Roadster, Bermaz has recorded strong sales figures averaging at 1,000 units monthly for the first half of the year.
