PETALING JAYA: CIMB Group Chairman Datuk Seri Nazir Abdul Razak (pix) seemed to be surprised with the announcement by the government to place him as part of the newly-established special economic committee (SEC).
In an Instagram post, the brother to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak said he did not expect to be part of the committee.
"Expected a new committee, but not with me in it!" he said.
"Anyway, will speak truth to power & hope it will help Govt to steer economy through this turmoil, and lessen the pain," he added.
His post included a picture of all those who were enlisted in the committee, chaired by the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar.
Nazir has been vocal over the debt-ridden 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) controversy.
Najib on Aug 26 named 10 economists and corporate leaders to a special economic committee formed by Putrajaya to formulate immediate and medium-term plans to strengthen the Malaysian economy.
Najib said the committee will look into maintaining the stability of the financial market and strengthening confidence in the capital market.
