MRCB boss wins APEA award

    KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) group managing director Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din has been recognised as one the country's leading entrepreneurs at the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards (APEA) 2015.
    He was among the 33 entrepreneurs and business leaders in the country; comprising of industry captains, leading entrepreneurs and dignitaries, receiving their awards at a glittering dinner held at InterContinental Hotel last night.
    Mohamad Salim received an award in the Outstanding Category together with 14 other recipients for entrepreneurial excellence, innovations, fair business practices and sustainable leadership and also recognised by Enterprise Asia as among the leading entrepreneurs and contributors for Malaysia's intensifying economic development.
    An ecstatic Mohamad Salim told theSun that he attributed of receiving the award to MRCB workforce, board of directors and shareholders.
    "I am grateful to have received this award, which is a true recognition of MRCB's achievements in the property development and construction sector," he said, after receiving the award.
    He believes that it is important to keep his entrepreneurship spirit alive, "to keep the whole organisation hungry for more challenges and opportunities."
    Under his stewardship at the helm of MRCB since Sept 2013, the conglomerate has been aggressively pursuing projects with an entrepreneurial spirit that will bring MRCB to the next level.
    The company has been focusing more on Transit Oriented Development (TOD) projects, namely the PJ Sentral Garden City and Kwasa Sentral in Klang Valley and the Penang Sentral public transportation hub.
    MRCB has received various awards overseas together with the latest green building project in Luxembourg.
    "Other developments that will be launched soon are The Grid in KLCC and Kota Semarak in Wangsa Maju," said Mohamad Salim. "The company has also acquired a piece of land from the German Embassy in Jalan Kia Peng for a new development next year."
    The MRCB supremo has offered a word of advice to the younger generation of entrepreneurs.
    "This hunger for success, innovation and solutions in business and entrepreneurship will take one on a marathon that requires limitless energy to reach the finish line," he added.
    The winner of the Entrepreneur of the Year was awarded to Silverlake Axis executive chairman Goh Peng Ooi and TSH Resources Berhad chairman Datuk Dr Kelvin Tan clinched the Special Achievement Award.‎
    Meanwhile, Monica Lai Voon Huey, group deputy managing director of Ireka Corporation Berhad was awarded‎ the Woman Entrepreneur of the Year and Datuk Murly Manokharan, group chief executive officer of Aspen Group, received the Young Entrepreneur of the Year award.
    The APEA is a regional recognition programme organised by Enterprise Asia, the region's leading association and think-thank for entrepreneurship.
    It is dubbed as Olympics for entrepreneurs in the region with nominees subjected to a series of rigorous tests of six months, including financial verification by an audit firm and a compulsory site audit and interview by Enterprise Asia's organising committee.
    Enterprise Asia president Datuk William Ng said the winners of APEA have proved their entrepreneurial skills and experience in one of the toughest contests in the world.
    "The APEA is aimed at promoting entrepreneurship. We hope to encourage them to continue taking their businesses to the next level, and in the process, providing more job opportunities and help to drive the economy forward" said William.‎ ‎
