KUALA LUMPUR: Despite the government deeming it illegal and banning all yellow material with the words Bersih 4.0 on it, the much talked about rally appears to be all set for action.
At noon, hundreds of rally participants, young and old clad in yellow t-shirts thronged the city centre at five locations marked for assembly by Bersih organisers before the rally is to officially kick off at 2pm at Dataran Merdeka.
While dozens of people in yellow are gathered at Menara Maybank, Brickfields, Masjid Negara and Sogo, the vicinity of Central Market appears to be the most popular converging point with the number of participants increasing by the minute.
Police and City Hall personnel took position as early as 5am at the perimeter of Dataran Merdeka which was completely closed-off.
At press time, the atmosphere was calm. It is estimated that at least 5,000 participants of the rally have gathered at the five assembly points.
Meanwhile theSun's Amar Shah reports that some 1,000 rally participants have flocked the entrance of the Sogo shopping complex led by PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli.
The crowd clad in yellow and carrying placards and banners have begun chanting "Reformasi", "Undur Najib" and "Bersih".
