BEIJING: Malaysians residing in China have been urged to stay away from the Bersih 4.0 rally which is expected to take place in several cities in China.
“Please stay away from Bersih. If you are a Malaysian who has any complaint against the government of Malaysia, do it through the proper channels. Don't take to the streets,” said Malaysia's Ambassador to China Datuk Zainuddin Yahya.
Moreover, overseas citizens who intend to organise such gatherings should obtain approval from the Chinese authorities, otherwise it will be deemed to be against the country's laws, he said.
Zainuddin spoke to Bernama after launching two books, “The Unity and Education in Malaysia” and “Kenali Beijing” at the 2015 Beijing International Book Fair here Saturday.
He said the public security bureau in Beijing had advised Malaysians not to take to the streets as this would be against the country's laws.
Bersih 4.0 rally participants ook to the streets in Kuala Lumpur despite the gathering having been declared illegal by the Malaysian authorities.
Zainuddin also said that the Malaysian Embassy in Beijing would hold a celebration for National Day and Armed Forces Day on Sept 17. – Bernama
