KUALA LUMPUR: Former Bersih 2.0 chairman Datuk S. Ambiga has praised the huge crowd that turned up today for Bersih 4 rally, in what she said was the largest gathering in Malaysia.
"I am touched to see all of you here today. And I want to congratulate the organisers in planning the biggest gathering ever here.
"The rakyat has gathered here, and in Sabah and Sarawak, in peace," she told the crowd which converged at the sides of Dataran Merdeka from several gathering points.
"The whole world is with us too."
She said the rallies that were being held in 75 cities in 22 countries simultaneously across the world was a proud achievement for them.
Ambiga added that the huge gatherings will send a strong message to the government, and will in turn force them to listen to the voices of the rakyat.
"Congratulations to all who are here today. And I know we have friends from Umno who are here too. Now you know how wonderful it is to walk with the rakyat," she said, sparking a roar of applause from the crowd.
Ambiga said that the first step now is for the MPs to put forward a vote of no confidence against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
Bersih 2.0 steering committee chairman Maria Chin Abdullah also echoed Ambiga's sentiment that the MPs must act now, adding: "This is the message we want to send, we want Najib to step down."
She added that the aim now was also to reform the whole political system, and not merely a change of prime minister.
"We can change our prime minister and government, but the system is still corrupt.
"We want a transformation government to take over," she said.
