KUALA LUMPUR: The police are satisfied with the conduct of the Bersih 4.0 rally protesters who have gathered at various meeting points in the city.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Tajuddin Md Isa said that the rally goers, estimated at 25,000 people, have acted accordingly and complied with instructions issued by the police.
"So far they have followed our orders and everything is peaceful, with no incidents of provocation," he said when contacted.
When asked about rumours regarding a tourist who was allegedly beaten up by the police near Central Market, he said the information circulated on the incident was false.
A picture of a woman went viral via the Twitter handle "Mat Lan" who wrote: An old woman has been beaten by the police at the Bersih rally. When the police acts like the pharaohs, is this democracy?"
In response, Tajuddin said: "I went to see (the tourist) and she fell from some steps at a hotel near Central Market. Do not listen to these rumours," he said.
He also declined to state the number of police personnel deployed on the ground, merely saying that there was a sufficient force present.
Meanwhile, rally participant Goh Kean Teat, 34, said no untoward incidents had occurred, and that the situation was peaceful.
"We marched from Pasar Seni all the way to Jalan Tun Perak ... as we were approaching Dataran Merdeka, it got congested.
"So the facilitators of the crowd, asked us to sit down in the middle of the road, and got us to sing patriotic songs," he said.
Goh also expressed satisfaction with the spirit of unity displayed by all the participants of the rally.
