PASIR GUDANG: There should be thousands of Anina Saaduddin to lodge police reports, thousands of people attending the Bersih rally, to show people's power.
Referring to the Langkawi Wanita Umno chief, former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Anina was brave enough to lodge a police report and file a suit against party president Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak and party executive secretary Datuk Ab Rauf Yusoh to reclaim a portion of the RM2.6 billion party donation.
"If everyone lodge police reports, thousands of reports, thousands of people go for Bersih, how can the government arrest so many people?" he said after giving a talk organised by the Academic Management Foundation and Malaysia Che Det club, here, at the Pasir Gudang Stadium.
He cited the ouster of Philippine president Ferdinand Marcos as an example of "people's power."
Mahathir said he was prepared to face the Sedition Act because his time was coming up.
"May be can be counted in months," he added.
He urged people to reject assemblymen and Members of Parliament who only served one person at the top and for money only.
"We don't want Najib, but we want BN to be retained as the government," he said, adding the Barisan Nasional coalition still has a majority in Parliament.
"We could achieve this by a no-confidence vote against Najib," he said.
In replying to a question, Mahathir said the government should abolish the Goods and Services Tax (GST) because it burdens the rakyat.
Replying to a question from the floor, Mahathir said every state Umno should hold a special Umno convention to voice out the people's demands.
To another question on the possibility of his son, Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, being sacked, Mahathir said most probably he may be sacked by Umno.
"Sometimes those who are sacked may be more popular one day," he added.
Mahathir himself was sacked from Umno in 1969 before he was re-admitted in 1973.
