Bersih 4: Comedian entertains rally-goers

PETALING JAYA: As about 200,000-strong Bersih 4.0 rally participants ended the first night of the 34-hour event by singing one of of Bersih's songs, "Terima Kasih", comedian Sim Tong decided to end his first Bersih experience by giving the gift of laughter to the demonstrators.
"It was my first Bersih so I worried about lots of things including not getting to the venue in time. I didn't go to Bersih 1, 2 and 3 but I was politically aware during the time Lynas was moving their rare earth processing operation from Australia to Malaysia, and I got very angry.
"So by Bersih 3, I was reading a lot of what was being said about the rally and the arguments against it were irrational so I defended the people who went to it. And I knew if there was a Bersih 4, I had to go and see it for myself."
Knows as Uncle Sim by other comics, Sim Tong is famous for his salacious jokes. But after his experience today, he believes he might get pigeon-holed as a political comedian.
With various reports stating a different numbers of attendees for the rally, Sim Tong was asked on how many people did he perform to today.
"I would say about 300 people. But I'm gonna mark it down as half a million. It felt like I was talking to the whole Bersih crowd when I was up there."
After the end of the songs, the rally-goers then proceeded to settle down along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman and Jalan Tun Perak for their rest. The rally's programme resumes tomorrow morning.
