Thumbs ups for cops on duty

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City police chief Datuk Tajuddin Md Isa said the Bersih 4.0 rally remains peaceful although there are still participants near Dataran Merdeka tonight.
He said in a statement that the rally's organisers have promised that they will dispersed on the eve of the National Day celebrations and would not disturb the preparations for the event.
However, action will be taken should there be transgressions against the law, he added.
Tajuddin said that on Aug 29, there had been 14 police reports while today (Aug 30) there were 13 police reports which had been recorded as of 10:45pm and five are being investigated.
So far, he said that a 21-year-old Malay man was arrested because he had acted out of order.
He is being investigated under section 14 of the Minor Offences Act and Section 25(1) for failing to produce an identification when requested by the police.
Meanwhile police received positive feedback and response from rally participants on the second day of Bersih 4 today.
Three members of a family, who wished to be identified as Silva, 57, Malini, 49 and Vinod, 19, said the police officers were professional and kept the situation under control.
"We have never encountered any untoward incident since yesterday and the police were professional in handling the situation," they said.
"We are here because we want to see change," they added.
A 68-year-old retired teacher who wish to be identified as Cikgu Lee, also praised the police for handling the crowd very well.
"As a first time participant, the situation was well under control. The police are doing a good job," she said.
Meanwhile, a disabled man known as Mhd Nor, 23, also lauded the police behaviour towards the rally goers.
"So far, the situation is under control and no untoward incidents reported or seen," he said.
Mhd Nor, who joined the rally for the first time, spoke highly of the men in blue and their cooperation in the rally.
"I believe in what Bersih does and I will give them my full support," he added.
