KUALA LUMPUR: MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai is confident investors will come to Malaysia, despite the economic and political issues troubling the nation.
Speaking to theSun, Liow said, they were looking to investors primarily from China and their coming in will l help the general economy, particularly the Malaysian Chinese as they are mostly in the economic sectors and this will also generate new employment opportunities.
He also disclosed that he had proposed several measures during Cabinet meetings, one of which is to attract overseas Malaysians to come back and invest in the country.
"We are also aware many families are concerned about sending their children abroad for higher studies due to the devaluating ringgit," he said, adding that it would be practical to tab on local opportunities.
Earlier Liow announced the "10 Economic Strategic Directions" conference, one of MCA's initiatives to transform the general economy.
"Faced with rapid changes and increased urbanisation in Malaysia, MCA must be able to adapt and innovate. Of great need is a clear direction in which the national economy will be able to remain competitive," he said.
Some 1,000 participants are expected to attend the conference on Sept 5. Focus groups will present their analysis in 10 different economic sectors consisting of short, medium and long term measures. The resultant resolution will then be presented during MCA's General Assembly sometime in October.
Also present was MCA deputy president Datuk Dr. Wee Ka Siong, and MCA Youth chief senator Chong Sin Woon.
