KUALA LUMPUR: A national back-up cyclist is in critical condition after being involved in a freak accident at KM 19 of the Kajang SILK Highway this morning.
Kajang District Police chief ACP Willey Richard said during the 9.45am incident, Nur Rozi Yanti Mat Rodzi, 17, fell off her bike and was hit by a van which was escorting her.
The cyclist and the van were heading back from Mantin, Negeri Sembilan to the National Sports Complex in Bukit Jalil.
"The van driver was said to be unaware that the cyclist had fallen off her bike since he was stretching his leg after suffering numbness when the van allegedly hit the fallen cyclist," he said when contacted by Bernama today.
He said Nur Rozi was being treated at the Kajang Hospital and the case was being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Meanwhile, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Mohd Sani Harul said a preliminary report revealed that the cyclist suffered serious head injuries and a fractured right thigh.
"A Fire and Rescue team from Bangi rushed to the scene and took her to the Kajang Hospital," he said. – Bernama
