KUALA LUMPUR: The International Medical University (IMU) today launched a community centre to provide basic healthcare as part of its efforts to contribute to society.
The IMU Community Centre, opened at Plaza Salak Park here, was established with the primary aim of supporting the surrounding community with affordable quality healthcare services.
The Centre is scheduled to provide services such as chiropractic, approved traditional Chinese treatments, nutritional and dietary counseling besides the soon to be introduced dental services in the future.
Seputeh MP Teresa Kok in her opening speech said the centre marked another significant contribution by IMU to the society.
"The availability of these quality healthcare services is timely and crucial with the projected population growth of approximately 465,000 people by year 2020, an increase of 46% from 318,000 in 2005, just within the Bukit Jalil-Seputeh strategic zone.
"It is my fervant hope that the community will empower themselves and make full use of the facilities and services at the IMU Community Centre to manage and improve their wellbeing," she said.
The centre will provide the opportunity for the less-privileged public members to seek treatments at a subsidised fee.
Eligible patients of household income less than RM5,000 per month will be able to apply for fund under the IMU Cares programmes.
The IMU Community Centre was initiated on April as a flagship community project under the leadership of the IMU with the integration and support of IMU Cares and IMU Healthcare.
The centre was mooted with the vision to provide integrated and quality healthcare services among the community and also introduce the co-existance of modern and complementary medicine towards enhancing the health and quality of life of Malaysians.
