KUALA LUMPUR: The Unicef Nepal Earthquake Children's Appeal received a boost today with a RM80,000 donation from the British Malaysia Chamber of Commerce (BMCC).
The amount was collected following its 11th annual rugby charity dinner on June 17.
BMCC chairman Andrew Sill said the donation is in line with the philosophy of the sport, which is about working together, respecting each other and helping out when needed.
"The BMCC Charity Rugby Event is now in its 11th year and we are glad that we can keep making a difference in young people's lives," Sill said during the cheque presentation ceremony to Unicef M'sia (Nepal Earthquake Children's Appeal) at Shangri-La Hotel here.
The dinner was attended by 400 guests where the highlight was the charity auction of top rugby memorabilia and unique prizes.
The cheque was presented to Unicef Malaysia chief of Fundraising and Partnership Richard Beighton.
On April 25, a 7.9 magnitude quake struck Nepal, killing more than 8,000 people and leaving thousands injured.
It was followed by a 6.9 magnitude aftershock the next day.
