PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's integrated theme park developer RSG Group is partnering interactive entertainment and services player Ubisoft Motion Pictures to develop a multi-million-ringgit next-generation theme park in Kuala Lumpur city centre.
At a press conference yesterday, RSG chairman Ramalle Ramlee said the actual development cost has yet to be finalised as this first-of-its-kind theme park consists of different components.
"We've not determined the actual cost for the project as we're still in discussions in terms of the size and content. In the next three days, Ubisoft and RSG will have a workshop to come out with all the facts and figures," he added.
However, the planned 10,000 square metre theme park is expected to open in 2020, with construction work to start by the end of 2016 or early 2017.
"We've identified a few locations in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. We'll make an announcement in due time, we can't divulge the location as yet," Ramalle said.
RSG will be responsible for project funding and development of the project and Ubisoft will bring in its intellectual property as well as expertise.
RSG is the co-owner and co-developer of the RM450 million Movie Animation Park Studios in Ipoh, Perak, in collaboration with Perak Corp Bhd. The attraction is expected to open its doors in May next year.
Ramalle is not concerned about competition in the local theme park industry even though there are a few under construction at present.
The local market can absorb another two or three international-standard theme parks and with more theme parks, Malaysia will be able to attract more tourists, he said.
At the same time, Ramalle said, RSG is looking for opportunities to venture into the overseas markets, but nothing has been concluded yet.
