TM clinches five-year deal to provide ICT services to Bank Simpanan

KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) has entered into a five-year service agreement with Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) for a new converged network transformation project.
However, TM CEO Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa declined to disclose the value of the agreement, citing the need for confidentiality in the competitive telecommunications industry.
Under the agreement, TM will deliver wide area network (WAN) services connecting 413 BSN branches nationwide. The new services will cover both connectivity and managed ICT services for BSN's banking operations.
Besides the WAN services, TM is also supporting BSN's telepresence infrastructure with TM's telepresence exchange services, delivering high definition quality videos for video-conference meetings.
Speaking to reporters after the signing ceremony yesterday, Zamzamzairani said the project is now 40% complete and is expected to be rolled out in March next year.
"The scope (for this service) is wide, we hope to extend for another five years," he said when asked if there is more potential collaboration between the two parties.
Zamzamzairani said the converged network is specially designed to enhance BSN customers' experience, thus improving BSN's operational efficiencies.
On a separate issue, he said TM is in the "finalisation stage" for the high-speed broadband phase 2 (HSBB2) and sub-urban broadband (SUBB) projects, with an expectation the deals can be concluded within the next one to two months.
"We have already completed the negotiations, now we're waiting for the government to come back to us," he added.
The total cost of the HSBB2 investment for a period of 10 years is RM1.8 billion, while SUBB deployment for a period of 10 years is RM1.6 billion.
TM will collaborate with the government to deploy the access and domestic core networks to deliver an end-to-end HSBB infrastructure under HSBB2 and SUBB.
