KUALA LUMPUR: Without any hassle the Workers Party Malaysia changed its name to Parti Amanah Negara at an EGM (Extraordinary general meeting) on Tuesday, its secretary general Anuar Tahir said.
He said the new party will be officially launched in Shah Alam on Malaysia Day, Sept 16.
The Workers Party was original founded in 1978 by the late Ganga Nayar, a women leader.
One of the party's surviving leaders Gopalan K. Papachan was co-opted into the Parti Amanah leadership.
Parti Amanah was set up by progressives in PAS who lost in the party's June elections.
